Company History:
The Wildlife Tours Peru company was founded in 2019 by Christoph Meyer and his wife Violeta. The idea came after Christoph received many Couchsurfing tourists in his home who were always looking for tours in the Amazon rainforest. Many of them spoke German, but there was no one offering tours in this language. Christoph also noticed that no local operators offered herpetology tours in Loreto. Recognizing these needs, he decided to create a tourism company to meet these demands.
Initially, the company started as a small business offering personalized tours of the Amazon rainforest, including night hikes in the Allpahuayo Mishana reserve. Over time, the company expanded and acquired its boat and tools to offer more personalized tours with its own logistics. Additionally, the company began to attract clients from around the world as it expanded its tours throughout the Loreto region.
Under the leadership of Christoph as CEO, the company has focused on promoting sustainable and responsible tourism, supporting local communities, and protecting the unique biodiversity of the Amazon region. Today, Wildlife Tour Peru has become one of the leading ecotourism tour operators in the Loreto region of Peru and is recognized for its commitment to sustainability and quality in its tourism services.

Christoph is an excellent guide! We booked a 3-day tour with him from Iquitos and were impressed by the seamless organization, the beautiful lodge, and the delicious food! We had a wonderful experience in Peru with Christoph Meyer, the owner/CEO of Wildlife Tours Peru. He was organized, efficient, reliable, and very knowledgeable about the birds and wildlife of the Loreto area. In addition, he is kind, considerate, patient, and flexible. “My job is to make you happy,” he said, and we were very grateful for his help. My wife and I (both 75 years old) needed quite a bit of physical assistance on the muddy, difficult trails, and Christoph literally held our hands when necessary. He also made sure that we saw all the birds and wildlife that he and the guides found. I recommend him highly and without reservation.

I am planning my third trip with Christoph now, and my 8th or 9th to Peru over the last 25 years or so.
Having spent time with Christoph in 2019 and 2020 Birding and Herping wildlife viewing and enjoying local peoples and cultures of the Amazon with Christoph, I cannot say enough good things about him and the experiences and wildlife I have seen.
I tell Christoph of my target species and schedule, which is always way too much, and he works on making an itinerary that will give us the BEST POSSIBLE chances.
At 74, I am a bit older than many birders and herpers traveling and staying in remote or not well-equipped lodges, Christoph lets me know the choices if any and tells me it may be too tough and we have to find a more suitable destination. His recommendations have always been good.
Christoph also knows many of the trails and advises me that on night hikes I should or should not take certain trails because they may be too difficult after seeing them in daylight, I RESPECT his good judgment and I am in good shape and spirits for my age.
Safety always comes first with Christoph, either in the City of Iquitos or in the forest camps and lodges on the tributaries of the Amazon.
His knowledge of Birds, Reptiles, Amphibians, and other wildlife is amazing. He is always, always, looking, does not give up, and makes me aware and explains other things of interest such as plants, spiders, butterflies, and crypt insects.
Another reason I enjoy Christoph as a guide and traveling with him is the great way and respect he shows people in the city and forest. He is well known and respected and liked by these people and is multi-lingual.
Christoph belongs to local birding groups and clubs, and is in touch with people of the forest and other guides, always learning more about nature, new locations, sightings, and useful information.
I am looking forward to 2021 and another amazing trip with Christoph.
