Day 1: Arrival in the Natural Paradise

The exciting tour starts between 8 and 9 am from the hotel. We will take a car to Nauta, where we arrive after a 2-hour drive. After that, we continue our journey with a Motokar and reach the port where we board a typical wooden boat (Peque Peque). During the dry season, we will sail until the confluence of Rio Marañon and Rio Ucayali, where the mighty Amazon begins. In the rainy season, we will cross the flooded Pacaya Samiria Reserve, saving time on the way to the lodge.

Around noon, we will finally arrive at our accommodation on the Rio Cumaceba/Yarapa, a smaller tributary of the Rio Ucayali in the nature reserve of Comunidad Puerto Miguel. Until lunchtime, you will have enough time to recover from the journey and enjoy the idyllic natural scenery.

In the afternoon of the first day, we will set out to search for monkeys, iguanas, and two different species of river dolphins. This will also be an opportunity to swim in the river and enjoy the breathtaking sunset panorama on the Ucayali. During the dry season, we will also explore the vast sandy beaches along the river. As it gradually becomes dark, we will return to the accommodation.

On the evening of the first day, we will embark on an exciting night excursion to explore the fascinating wildlife of the jungle at night. We will have the opportunity to search for and observe insects, scorpions, tarantulas, and snakes as they become active in the darkness. During the dry season, we will explore the surroundings on a short night walk and observe nocturnal animals. In the case of high water, we will take a boat ride on the rivers to search for boas and other nocturnal animals. These unique nighttime experiences are unforgettable and provide us with the opportunity to experience the beauty and secrets of nature up close.

Day 2

The second day begins early in the morning, between 5:30 and 6:00 am, for bird watching. With the dawn, primates become particularly active, and we have the unique opportunity to experience these wonderful animals in their natural habitat. We will be accompanied by an experienced guide who will explain the bird species and primates to us and help us discover the animals.

After breakfast and before lunch, we will explore the rainforest on a longer hike. Our experienced guide will show us the diversity of plants and impressive trees in the region. With a bit of luck, we may also discover wild animals, such as the fascinating leaf-cutter ants. A special highlight of the tour is the opportunity to observe the pygmy marmosets – one of the smallest monkey species in the world. This experience will remain with us forever and bring us even closer to the wonders of nature.

On the afternoon of the third day, we navigate the Cumaceba River and explore various lakes to experience the beauty and diversity of the region. During the journey, we keep an eye out for sloths, parrots, and other monkey species that live in the treetops and along the riverbanks. This boat tour is a unique opportunity to experience nature in all its glory and observe the wildlife up close.

In the evening, we will take a boat ride to a lake to observe the fascinating caimans in their natural habitat. In this region, we can see up to three different species. As we search for them, we can admire the clear starry sky and observe the fireflies flying around us. Additionally, we will be accompanied by the loud sounds of frogs, who make these nighttime hours their active time. This experience is an unforgettable highlight of our tour.

Day 3

On the last day of our tour, we start after breakfast with a visit to the largest trees in the area. We admire these impressive natural wonders and let ourselves be enchanted by their majestic appearance. Then we move on to fishing, where we will try to catch piranhas and other smaller fish species. An experienced guide will help us find the best fishing spots and show us techniques for catching these fish.

The return journey begins after lunch. We travel back to Nauta and from there by car back to the city of Iquitos. Our unforgettable tour through the buffer zone of the Pacaya Samiria Reserve ends there before 6 pm. We hope that you take many wonderful memories and experiences home with you and that you will return to the jungle soon.

Of course, there is the possibility to explore this area even more extensively and discover even more of the unique animal and plant life of the rainforest. There are numerous additional hikes and boat trips where we can observe more monkey species, exotic birds, butterflies, and reptiles. Fishing for piranhas and other fish species is also an experience that we can repeat. Additionally, exploring the life of indigenous communities offers the opportunity to learn about their customs and traditions.

Furthermore, we can continue to explore the region by water and discover more lakes and rivers. This will also allow us to admire the unique flora and fauna of the floodplains. The Pacaya Samiria Reserve offers a wealth of experiences and adventures that we would love to share with you. There is so much to see and discover that a longer exploration of this region would offer an unforgettable experience.
